This is a series I had the opportunity to sequence for Ong Krongrat Jindapol.
When Krongrat first showed me this body of work, along with the accompanying statement, I was genuinely excited. It felt special to be invited into the process because Krongrat is one of the finest series makers I know and someone whose work I deeply admire. I was truly happy that he wanted me to be part of this project.
I began by reading the statement carefully, trying to place myself inside the emotions and atmosphere of the poem. Before touching the images, I first rewrote parts of the text to improve its rhythm and flow. Only then did I move on to the photographs.
I experimented with many different sequencing approaches before arriving at one that felt right. The series would unfold in groups of five images. The center image represents Krongrat’s identity and way of thinking—or perhaps even the viewer’s own inner self. The two images on the left symbolize experiences and memories, while the two images on the right represent what is unfolding, transforming, or what has already found its answer.
From there, I shared my ideas for both the image editing and a revised version of the statement with Krongrat, asking whether the direction resonated with him. Thankfully, it did.
Once we agreed on the direction, however, we realized the work was still incomplete. The series needed more images. I encouraged Krongrat to search for additional photographs—whether by creating new work or revisiting his archive. Gradually, the series evolved into the form you see today.
The narrative continues to move inward and outward, back and forth, throughout the entire sequence.
I often wonder how viewers experience the work before reading this behind-the-scenes story. And after reading it, when they return to the series, do they feel the same things—or something entirely different?
